Daybreak was established in 1975 as an emergency shelter for runaway and homeless youth. Over the past 33 years, over 10,000 young people in crisis have gone to Daybreak for shelter, support, and services.

In June, 2008, Daybreak moved to a new building and became Ohio’s first comprehensive service center for homeless youth and young adults. Daybreak’s innovative facility in downtown Dayton offers:

  • 16-bed emergency shelter for homeless youth ages 10 to 18
  • 24 furnished apartments for homeless youth ages 18 to 21
  • 24-hour on-site supervision, support services, and security
  • An area where street youth can shower, do laundry, and meet with staff
  • A counseling center for youth and their families
  • Two computer labs, training rooms, and recreation areas
